• Boards and scenery are going to be top-notch. Thanks in large part to Tom Keegan and John Petrelli (who run the SITE GT for LotR) and John Vega of Amorous Armadillo, we'll have Realm of Battle or custom made boards at every table and quality scenery as well. No green sheets, no patches of felt for forests and ponds, no paper buildings - just excellent and visually exciting environments to play in.
  
• Trophies will all be custom made and unique to the Crucible, and there will be trophies given out for every tournament.
  
• Painting is not required, but we will be giving out hobby awards, so if you like it then put some paint on it!
  
• First Place in the Masters will earn the winner a 35 pt. army of your choice, pro-painted and based to your specifications

With February only 3 months away, it was time to take stock of where we're at with boards and scenery for the tournament. I met with my good friend, Tom 'Ogre Daddy' Keegan, to go through everything he's got and compare it to everything that's in the works.

Tom, along with John Petrelli, runs the annual Shadow in the East (SITE) LotR tournament here in Orlando and they are providing the backbone of most of the boards you'll see at the Crucible.

As tournament organizers, it has always been our goal to give attendees a peerless gaming experience, and if you look at the pictures below, you'll have a good idea of what you can expect to play ON!

Hello All,

We've been busy play testing the new SR2012 beta, and would like to give you all a heads up on what to expect. In our opinion, the changes have been positive. We know a lot of you have been crunching through lists and looking at models you want in your force, so here's some food for thought:


Character restrictions will be in effect. In SR2012, anything with FA:C will be limited to only one list. This means your A and B lists cannot contain the same characters. For example, Banelord Tartarus or Ol' Rowdy can appear in your A list, but not in your B list and vice versa.  Different versions of the character (pEiryss and eEiryss, for example) can be fielded, however. Though it won't have too much affect on Red Skies , Revielle, or Taps, the impact on Crucible will indeed be felt. The Crucible tournament is the finale in which three lists must be presented and used during the course of the event. Let the best player win!

Flank scenarios Flank scenarios require additional models to be kept in reserve - entering the board from a prescribed flank area from turn 2 onward. We can guarantee you that there will be at least one Flank scenario over the course of the weekend, so get used to playing with reinforcements and make sure you've got the models for it. For 35pt games there will be an additional 7pts. For 50pt games there will be an additional 10pts. Reinforcements will be part of your submitted lists and are subject to character restrictions as well.

Radial scenarios will be used. Radials were a new introduction in SR2011, and bear mentioning as most players tend to avoid playing them. Practice them - you will see them!

New accelerated time limits. This is probably the biggest change. Start practicing using one level lower than what you're used to. For a lot of scenarios you now will get two extensions as opposed to one.

Its hard to believe, but Crucible 2012 is right around the corner! As of today we're officially only one month away from Day One of the largest Warmachine & Hordes event of its kind in the Southeast, so we wanted to send out greetings and updates from sunny Orlando - where its currently 77 degrees and absolutely beautiful.

Privateer Press has released an updated errata, and there are definitely changes that everyone needs to be aware of. There's plenty of talk on various forums about it, but do yourself and your list a favor and familiarize yourself with it. The number one question we've recieved has always been this:

Well, we're happy to report that most of it is now in, and it looks like this!

With only a month to go, its time to start thinking about what you'll need for the tournament, so here's a list to get yo' mind right:

Page Five - Yes, you've already read it.  Read it again!  Its perhaps the greatest gaming manifesto ever published, and its something we here at the Crucible embrace.  Play hard, play fair, and expect no quarter!

Front Arcs marked - Perhaps one of the most important things we all fudge on now and then in our casual play, marking front arcs on your models is essential and required for the kind of intense, timed-turn action that a large tournament brings.  You don't have to go crazy with the method of marking (though, by all means, feel free to go crazy!).  Simple white marks can be used to delineate your front and back 180s.

Cards - This is probably already ingrained in most players, but it bears highlighting. You must have a card for every model you're fielding.   In the heat of battle, no opponent wants to be stuck reading entries out of Faction books or expansions.

Army Lists - in addition to your cards you must have legibly printed lists to turn in for each tournament you participate in - and don't forget to include your reinforcements!  You should have a copy of your own, as well, to show your opponent if they request.  Lists can be hand-written, but must be legible.

Dry Erase Marker - Don't be the guy who's always having to ask somebody to lend them a pen.  While you're at it, bring a regular pen too so you can fill out your game sheets.

Book a Room - This is a reminder, not because we have a quota to hit (we don't), but because A) the rooms are cheap ($40 - half price), and B) you don't want to be driving home when there's carousing to do and stories to tell!
