Warmachine/Hordes Steamroller Tournament Moved 2/22/09 Empty Warmachine/Hordes Steamroller Tournament Moved 2/22/09

Post by galonso Wed Feb 11, 2009 10:53 am

Due to Silver Dragon Square closing its doors, the tournament scheduled for 2/21/09 has been moved to SUNDAY 2/22/09 at Sunshine.

Im running the tournament for Joel. Here are the details.

02/22/09- 500 point Steamroller 4 WM/Hordes Tourney!!!

Main Details:

Format: WM/Hordes 500 Point Steamroller 4
Time: Register from 11am to 11:30am and Dice roll at noon (Don't be late or face the consequences!)
Date: 01/17/09
Prizes: Top 4 will receive prizes
Where: Sunshine Adventure Gaming - 7921 Bird Road #44 Miami, Florida 33155 (305) 264-1250
Web: www.sunshineroleplayers.com
Cost: $5.00 entry fee

Download the rules and maps here - www.gurudojo.com under Resources.

Players must also bring at least two printed or legibly handwritten copies of all their army lists including point costs and an army/horde point total. They must register one copy of these lists with the TO prior to the start of the tournament. The player's opponent may view the other copies upon request.

The number of players participating in the tournament determines the maximum number of matches played. The chart below breaks down the number of rounds relative to number of players per event. The event will run until there is a clear winner, which usually means when there is only 1 undefeated player at the beginning of a round. Once a clear winner emerges, the event ends without additional matches. 8 players or less - 3 matches, 9 -16 players - 4 matches.

Steamroller uses timed turns to ensure a fair play environment. Players have 10 min to play each turn. When the time for a turn expires, the player whose turn it is finishes the activation of whatever model he is activating, and then ends his turn.

When a player moves a model or makes an attack during the other player’s turn, the player whose turn it is has the option of stopping the clock while the move or attack resolves.

After the time limit for the match has expired, the TO calls “dice down”. When dice down is called the active player finishes any action already in motion (for example a dice roll or moving a unit), and then the game ends. If a game goes to dice down, check the scenario for how to determine the winner.

Once per game, each player may extend his turn length. A player can extend his turn length by declaring he is doing so after the time allotted for his turn runs out. At this time, the active player’s opponent resets the clock for five minutes, and the active player continues his turn. Remember that this extension is only for a player’s turn length and cannot extend a turn past the match length.

We will provide timers. Round length is 85 min + a variable D6 X 2 additional min.

Proxies (substitute models) are not allowed under any circumstances, nor can a player enter a tournament with a model that has not been released to the general public.

Guys, just a reminder, the tourney this Sunday @ Sunshine is not Joel's regular Warmachine Tourney. He agreed to fill the void that the Silver Dragon closing left.
Because this isn't his normal Warmachine tourney there will be a $5 entry fee as stated in Gabe's post.

I'm trying to fit this into my schedule. I'm MOD (manager on duty) this weekend so I have to spend 4 hours at work. I'm gonna try to get to work at 7am to leave at 11am to be there. However, anything can happen so please call me around 11:30 to see if I can make it.

I had alot of fun in this tourney. Ray and the "Lakeland" guy were great sports and I enjoyed playing against them. Art, I love you but Haley is a bitch!!! Hopefully, one of these days I will beat her!!!

Third place is cool. I got $10 dollars which went into getting my Butcher list completed. All that is missing is Bloody Bradigan, but he is not that essential.

I had a great time guys,
Guy, the Trolls will rise again from under the boot of Khador. Effing Doombringers/sisters repentia. Stupid Wind Wall.
Stephan, dammit, if I had just moved my Fell Caller back 3"-4" I woulda won Smile Next time Smile
Chris (Lakeland) Nice job man, those Bane Knights WRECKED me. I need to recheck my list, but for some reason I think I was blatantly cheating with like 54 points over, again, I need to recheck my list against my books.

I had a blast in what was my second tournament with Warmachine. I must say I'm quite enamoured with the game.

I learned.

A. Never forget the scenario (cost me my first game and almost my second)
B. Sorcha is a bitch
C. The witch coven is nasty.

So I'll hopefully see you all thursday night !

Warmachine/Hordes Steamroller Tournament Moved 2/22/09 Empty Re: Warmachine/Hordes Steamroller Tournament Moved 2/22/09

Post by ar2 Tue Feb 24, 2009 5:27 am

I had a great time at the tourney as well, all of my matches where tight.

I played Chris from Lakeland, in the first match. He played a very good game with Deneghra and got Caine down to two wounds. I won 2-0 on scenario points when the match suddenly came to time.

My second match was quite strange. Guy, playing Sorscha, moved Eiryss out of a contested part of the field on his turn two, at the end of the second round, allowing me, playing Haley, to walk Aiyana and Holt in, and win by scenario at the end of my turn three, without having to fire a single shot.

In the final match I played with Haley against Cary and the Old Witch. I can honestly say it was one of the craziest and the singular most exciting WM game I've played. She played her game like a pro, and forced me to play Temporal Barrier or get charged by a full unit of Iron Fang Pikemen, with U/A, and all three Great Bears. She calculated perfectly and left the Old Witch just outside the TB.
On her turn, she popped her feat, causing all of my models to stand still or take a power 14 hit. She could have easily teleported the Witch to a nearby forest right next to Haley, and simply slaughtered my caster, but she chose to charge my Lancer. This move probably cost her the game. The Witch didn't have enough Focus to dismantle my 'jack, and on my turn I allocated 3 Focus to the Lancer, popped Haley's feat, giving all friendly Cygnar models one more attack, and proceeded to not do enough damage to kill the Witch, getting her down to five wounds. Failure!
I then had to move the Black 13th to get LOS to the Witch, risking a power 14 hit on all three. The first two died, but the unit leader survived..., missed his Command check of 8, and fled. Failure #2!
I had Eiryss near the Witch, but couldn't draw LOS, and like a fool I moved her, forgetting that Eiryss packs Phantom Seeker bolts that can target anyone in range regardless of LOS. Eiryss takes a power 14 hit and dies. Failure # 3..., but I had one last trick!
I had positioned my Gun Mage Captain Adept on a nearby hill, without LOS to the Witch. This this time I remembered his Flashfire bullet, and that it works similar to Eiryss' Phantom Seeker bolt! I took the shot, needing a six to hit, and rolled a five! Failure #4!
He had a second shot, from Haley's feat, and this time, again needing a six to hit, wonder of wonders, I hit! I then needed to do five damage to kill the Witch, or lose to scenario conditions. I needed to roll nine on two dice to deal five damage, and wonder of wonders #2, one die showed a four and the other a five! Down went the Witch!
Like I said, the most exciting game ever, thanks to Cary for knowing how to play against Haley! Good times!

My thanks to Gabe for running a fun tourney, and keeping a friendly environment. Who would have thought it?! And thanks to Joel for hosting, and great price support!

I hope a good time was had by all. Let's do it again soon!
