Battleboard Extreme Makeover
After seeing what Jerry did with the boards at Sunshine, I decided that awful Black and Orange Lava monstrosity had to face an extreme makeover.
Having already postponed my Wood Elf project to work on a WoTR army - I did not have alot of time to commit to this project.
Enter Rustolium Multicolored spray paint in Rustic Brown
Working from the black base
I started with a primer coat of flat brown spray paint over all of the orange lava sections.
I followed that up with one coat of the rustolium rustic brown mutli-colored.
Next, while still wet I misted highlights of colonial red on the hills.
I let the spray paint dry for a couple of days
I added white details to all the bone and skull lakes
Last, I stained all white and the deep rock cracks with walnut brown minwax
30 minutes on spray painting
1.5 hours on the bone details
2 hours and $10 in supplies
Later to the loud 80s deco halloween masacre
Hello to smooth earth tones.... the way God intended land to look

Re: Battleboard Extreme Makeover
I have my own set of boards I have not touch!
I plan to flock them and will post pictures (once I figure out how to do that) once I get around to. I have ten armies to paint and several terrain items to do that are still outstanding, so it may be awhile.
Year or two.

Re: Battleboard Extreme Makeover
Here's a link to a board done Rohan-style on The Last Alliance site.
Rohan Battleboard
It includes a how-to guide, which is always helpful!
Looking good on the progress! I wasn't as big a fan of the volcanic lava myself.

Re: Battleboard Extreme Makeover
I hope the texture gives the trays some grip on the slop. It should help some.
The Orange was too bright - it took too much away from the models.
