Recon 1750 Mid War tournament list

Here is the list that I'm looking at playing, any feed back is welcome

Guards Motor Company HQ
Guards Motor Platoon (Light Mortar and 3x Anti-Tank rifles)
Guards Motor Machine Gun Platoon 2 Sections (4x Vickers MG's)
Guards Scout Patrols with 4 .50 cal MG's (2 Patrols= 6 UC's with 2 .50 cals each)
Guards Motor Platoon (Light Mortar and 3x Anti-Tank rifles)
Guards Motor Anti-Tank Platoon (2x 6pdr Portees)
Kingforce Armoured Platton 3x Churchill III's
Light Armoured Platoon 1 Crusader II CS and 2 Crusader II's
Royal Horse Artillery Battery 4x 25 pdrs
1750 pts

I feel like the 6 pdrs are too small of a platoon. Then again, I could be wrong, but being portees I'm afraid that they'd get chewed up really fast.

I like the list though, got a little bit of everything in it. Is it Veteran or Trained?

Well, most likely the 6 pdrs will be used dismounted but i agree with you about being fragile. I have 2 2 pdr portees, but since the new book I can't have a platoon of half and half like I used to. I have 2 more 6 pdrs but not on portees. I kinda think that they won't like me proxying the 2 pdr portees as 6 pdrs. But If i dismount them I would have the 4 6 pdr guns.

All the Guards are Confident Veteran. The tanks are Confident Trained and the Artillery is Fearless Veteran.

Looks well rounded, only weakness will be if someone brings air support.

Good point Kyle. I'm banking on the fact that the last 2 years that I've played there only one person brought air and it was ineffective.

I could drop 1 scout platoon and the portees. And reduce the other scout platoon to only 1 50 cal MG.

I could then add a platoon of Shermans and 2 mortars to the HQ.


Or Drop the portees and the Crusaders and add 1 platoon of Grants. That would leave me with the extra scout platoon.

Of course, the issue with this is that it drops me to 7 platoons over all and on several of the missions I could end up starting with only 3 platoons which makes it tough.

I have had great success with air support. If used properly. I have taken out Tiger's and clean up infantry.

The 50 cal's can act as AA if I recall correctly (or there is a version of 50 cal that is AA). The dual roll could help you. If they are within a certain range (17 inches?) they can defend the unit. This way you do not have to spend extra point or allocate resource just for air defense. Just a suggestion.

I love my air support, but do see lot of people ignore it because it can be very random in it's results. Many rather have boots and treads on the ground than the random help from the skies.

My list is 7 platoons, but I have air support. It's a problem to be sure.

I like the idea of Grants, but you have some Churchills, so I think your ok on the heavy armor front.

Air will only be a problem if someone brings priority and your attacking. Then, your infantry are out in the open. Otherwise, I think you'll be ok.

The issue with the motor company, is that you are really restricted on what you an take. For example, I would like to take a 3rd Motor Infantry Platoon but I can't. I wouldn't mind adding 4 more 25 pdrs but not interested in spending any more money. I like the Grants more than the crusaders. Think they will do better since they don't have the No HE rule. The only issue I see is that on the Breakthrough mission, I'm going to have 2 platoons in reserve if I'm defending. But I'd rather have that then have only 3 on and 4 off on the other two missions.

Well, I changed my mind and I'm going back to playing my Fallschirmjagers at Recon this weekend.

Thats a nasty list. I don't wanna face that (3 flamethrowers is gross)
