Cool Stuff
For those of you who know Henry Rodriquez (callidusx3). I got an email from him today...
Good morning friends!
For those who did not know, I am in Las Vegas attending GAMA's game hobby trade
show. Yesterday I gave my presentation on trademarks and copyrights. Today is
the first day the the publisher/designer/distributor expo hall is open and I
will be entering that in 30 minutes or so.
However, I was able to meet with some companies yesterday and I thought some of
you would like to know what I discovered.
1. Looney Labs is at the tail end of finishing up testing their licensed Monty
Python's Fluxx game. I was fortunate to play a game (and won it). It looks
like lots of fun and may be my favorite version. In addition, they will have
for sale here (limited release?) some custom wooden Zombie Fluxx boxes that
comes with a unique card for the game. I made some nice contacts with this
company's officers.
2. I sat and talked at length with the owner of Battlefront (Flames of War).
The Kiwi was quite a nice gent and took my business card with intention (fingers
crossed!) of following up with me in the future. He also showed me part of the
Bagration boxed set release scheduled for October this year. In addition to an
army book (which now have a new graphical element to army selection, found in
the new Normandy armybook coming out soon), the box set will contain a boardgame
featuring a map of the region and prepainted (simple green & grey colors) lead
figures (6mm for non-infantry units, infantry standard 15mm) for both Germans
and Russians. The game is really a secondary element arising from the use of
the figures/board as campaign system for battles during this operation on the
eastfront. It looked really nice and I am stoked! The campaign system has been
exhaustively playtested according to Peter (the owner of BF).
3. I met with a couple of small, startup companies intoducing their new card
games (a collectible [with design input by the late Gary Gygax] and
non-collectible game [that is a nominee for Origins game of the year]). Some
good contacts there and I like the non-collectible card game Overboard.
I'll email you all later tonight (or tomorrow) with more goodies/tidbits from
the expo hall.
