Battle Fleet Gothic
Hey brothers! Still looking for some dusty, old, gunked, up or just plain junk BFG ships I can strip and repaint to pristine condition for my imperial/space marine fleet or begin on a second fleet and finally make into space hulks and floating wrecks for terrain pieces.
If any of you have ships you just don't want and are willing to trade, give, sell just send me a PM as I'm really trying to get some stuff going and maybe a second fleet to be able to show poeple the luv when I can't get my friend with all his BFG stuff to come by and play since me playing right now is depending on his stuff for the most part.
I Currently have the Ramilis Battle Fort on order from Forge World with some fuel ships to run some scenerios when I'm in and not playing 40k for those who want to give a game a go just for shits and giggles.

Re: Battle Fleet Gothic
How will your imperials fair against Necrons, Eldar and Tau. I think the game is a bit broken in this respect.

Re: Battle Fleet Gothic
Enough of the "game is broken," please. BFG is certainly no more broken then 40K or Fantasy (not saying much, maybe, but oh well).
Yes, Eldar and Necrons are beastly and hard to beat, but they aren't unbeatable.
The Necrons are much harder than anyone else to defeat (never played with/against the Tau), but have their weaknesses. For one, they are incredibly expensive per ship, so have small fleets and the opponent gets something like tripple victory points for reducing a capital ship to a hulk (not easy to do, but it has been done before). Additionally, most of their weapons are short ranged, though they are faster than normal ships of equivalent classes, they aren't incredibly so.
The Eldar are incredibly fast, but are very fragile, plus their movement is restricted by sun location. Also, they are relatively expensive per ship, so tend to have smaller fleets. Space Marine fleets, in particular, and "horde" Imperial fleets can eat them for lunch.
As mentioned before, have never played with/against Tau, only read their rules, so can't say much about them.

Re: Battle Fleet Gothic
Wowsa... I myself have yet to face off against Necrons but I would like the challenge as I build on my own imperial/space marine fleet. The eldar where alot of fun to play against and I must say I took out a fair number of ships only right before he whooped up on my battlebarge. Only thing saving me was lots of thunderhawks already circling in defense.
Anyway, like all fun games I mainly enjoy modeling and painting these ships for theme towards my templars or just to have fun and thats mainly why I'm building a fleet and there is enough intrest to get me going.

I used to love BFG. I think all my models need to be repaired but I played with IG. I have an unopened space port blister (if i remember correctly) if you are interested. All my IG stuff is painted so I am sure you dont need it.

So Sam you've brought up some points in defense of the Eldar.
1) Their very expensive so they have small fleets...yeah but that small fleet will demolish your giant Imperial fleet.
2)Their weapons are short range, but their fast as hell and their speed negates that.
Sooooo what was your point in bringing up those points when you countered them yourself? As Stephan said Im gonna go out on a limb here and say you play Eldar...the default beat the system race.

I'm looking for anything really as long as it's extremely cheap, or tradeable, and if it's junk I can always turn it into debris or blasted ships so no big deal even if it's painted. I can always strip and if I like the paint I'll touch it up.
Also on the Eldar point, I had four cobra's fire a barrage into a massed set of eldar escorts and destroyed five out of the six if I recall correctly. Just great timing on my part and in the right place at the right time. Like any good game it's all about tactics and dice.

Re: Battle Fleet Gothic
Yes, I do play Eldar, but I've also played SM and Imperial Fleets and was able to beat them with both. They are hard to beat, but not unbeatable. So, I wouldn't go so far as to say the game is broken...just more challenging against different races. And, I picked Eldar before ever reading the rules for the game.Rokassan wrote:So Sam you've brought up some points in defense of the Eldar.

Hey Sam we need to get another game on when I get back from WLC on the 11th of June. I'm going to play the Dreadnaught event but may bring my gothic fleet if I get taken down early and would definatly like to play the following weekend with ya and some guys from work again.
On another note and I know this is getting off base for the trade area but I just finished my Emporer Class Battleship, 20x Forgeworld Thunderhawks for BFG, three Hunter Class Destroyers, and I'm working on four more cruisers and three new strike cruisers for a huge fleet game me and some friends at work have been talking about. here is the thing and take this as a point of advice that Forgeworld has no quality control...
In point I mean to say my Frey knight strike cruiser I got to go with my first one has the one side weapon batteries indesions filled with resin so I had to do a battle damaged theme as carving it out was not an option. Also, the thunderhawks are such a low quality mold with so much overflash I spent well over a few hours carving them down and had five of them come apart to the point as where they will be battle damaged. Needless to say I wrote them a letter and got back a call us reply.... yeah long distance. Anyway, besides the vent on that this is my question;
Has anyone done smoke trailing damge before? I've seen it and it looks like cotten sprayed from a distance to not allow it to clump but get a decent black and then perhaps airbrush grey to white near the actual damage where the cotton trail is attached. I want to add this effect to the five thunderhawks and the strike cruiser to reflect debrish and venting gases coming off them in flight as I already have the molten metal glow and the impact sites. I'll post some pics later. Anyway any ideas feel free to pm.

Escorts
Still hurting for ships. At the very least I'm coming up cruiser heavy and need to flesh out some escorts if there are any out there. Would even consider various other fleets to work on.

Re: Battle Fleet Gothic
Mike, I won't be around on the 11th anymore...I'll be back in town on the weekend of 21-22 June...Would love to get in a game with you and your friends from work.
Bill, every race can be cheesy (even your beloved Chaos -- yes, with the new books...they punked you on fluff and variation, but boosted unit strength/abilities in return -- not a fair trade for most Chaos players, I'll admit). Eldar in BFG are considered one of the most difficult to beat, but not unbeatable...the Necrons are the most difficult to beat in BFG...and pretty nasty in 40K, too...thank god they're not in Fantasy, though one could argue that the TK and VC are like Necrons.

Yeah...
Eldar in BFG... one of the most difficult to beat
Eldar in 40k ... one of the most difficult to beat
Elves in Fantasy... one of the most difficult to beat.
I guess you've just lucked out Sam. All your favorite armies are one of the most difficult to beat.

Re: Battle Fleet Gothic
Picked them before reading the rules because I like the story line of the Pirate FleetsOvich wrote:Eldar in BFG... one of the most difficult to beat
Liked the fluff...was tired of Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines, so picked them (before the new uber-codex came out).Ovich wrote:Eldar in 40k ... one of the most difficult to beat
Have always liked High Elves...been playing them for almost 8 years...so played them when the book was much more balanced. The new book -- GW stupidity almost at its worst...after reading the new Daemon Army book as well as seeing some of the combinations for the Vampire Counts, I'm starting to think it's in the water at GW...Ovich wrote:Elves in Fantasy... one of the most difficult to beat.
I suppose I did at that...though have played each army for many years, so picked them before the newer, dumber rules came out for them...Ovich wrote:I guess you've just lucked out Sam. All your favorite armies are one of the most difficult to beat.
