Bitches of Battle
Just testing out the new editing options on photobucket with some models I had painted for my witchhunter army..
I like the new options.

Actually,
I prefer it the first way. It looks a little faded but not so electric blue. The armour is actually quite grey in real life, with space wolves grey as the highlight.

Re: Bitches of Battle
Love the sisters! I am humbled by their awesomeness. How did you get them to look so gritty, especially the cloak? Do you have any closeup shots?

Re: Bitches of Battle
Here's a little more of a closeup. Click on the pic itself to get a little more closer.
The grittiness is basically achieved through drybrushing.. As much as drybrushing gets a bad rap and is considered a beginners tool, I think it has it's place when trying to achieve the dirty, realistic look of the battlefield.
While I'm certainly capable of producing miniatures with a layered, cleaner look, some miniatures just need to be completed more quickly. Drybrushing is a great way to get a quality table top model quickly.
The robes basically started with a snakebite leather over a black primer and worked my way through Bleached bone up to skull white for the highlights. I wanted it to appear to be dirty.. just like you'd expect it in a battle.
The stormbolter was a conversion that needed a green stuff elbow made in the back.. It looks huge because it was taken from a terminator.

Re: Bitches of Battle
sisters are powerful but you have to constantly play conservative, and strike late game. they looks good Stephan! you've got some good models in your arsenal. You just have to speed paint the rest of the schmoes.
Re: Bitches of Battle
Ovich, who the hell says that dry brushing is a beginners tool? Painting is hard regardless of what method you use.

Well many of the best painters look down upon drybrushing because they say other methods such as blended highlights, layered highlights, etc. provide a much better look.

Re: Bitches of Battle
Drybrushing is a beginner's tool because it is generally the first "technique" that you learn after realizing that you can't just slather paint on a mini and have it look good.
Other techniques such as blending, layering, feathering, and NMM all involve watering down your paints significantly and usually take alot more time and patience, as well as practice.
Look at the best artists on Cool Mini or Not, and you will see very little drybrushed models, because it generally produces a less clean effect.
