Ard'Boys semi finals recap

Well, im back from the semi finals, and i have to say i did pretty crappy, two draws and a major victory didnt take me anywhere. It was fun as hell though, evryne was pretty cool, had like 16 people, i think i placed 4th...LOTS of Draws ! The winner was this guy that brought an all knight Bretonian army with the King and the Fay Enchantres, prety much an army made to max damage reaaally quick.

My first oponent was a dwarf army with 3-4? organ guns an dlike 4 bolt trowers, the anvil and a gunline from hell, i took a lot of casualties coming, that damn anvil was just wrecking destruction all over my units and my bad rolling didnt help either, i had a horrible turn where 4 units failed animosity and i had 3 fleeing, those 4 units that failed were crucial charges that i couldnt make, it sucked bad.

Second oponent was another Orc player with lots of big boys and grimgor and 2 giants and a great shaman on a wyvern, we just couldnt kill enough of each other to win, i missed a minor victory by arround 60 points.

Third oponent was a Bretonian with the Fay enchantres and lots of pegasus knights, fanatics + bretonians = squish, pretty much evrything went for me on this game, untill the end where i had 3 unis locked in combat, one grail knight unit with his lord and 4 knights left in combat with my huge goblin unit with skarsnik, and there were two other units stuck in with a giant, those other 2 units had the fay enchantres and his Battle standard and another lvl 2 sorceres...and of course i had 3 units of boys set to charge his flanks on my last turn and all 3 failed their animosity, THAT right there went from a possible massacre to a minor victory, i was soooo pissed, but oh well, thats the risk you run when playing Orcs & goblins.

Surprisingly i didnt see a single High elf! there were like 4 VCs, like 3-4 bretonians, a Beastmen army with all dragon ogres, shagoth and couple of other units, a Tomb King! 2 dwarves, 1 orc, 1 Dark elf, 1 empire, and i may have missed one or 2.

The place where the tournament was held was HUGE, is amazing how much bigger and stronger the gaming community is in Orlando vs here in Miami, to be able to support such a huge place, they sold warhammer, fow and other games, lots of comics also, mangas, they had a whole wall of the store with arround 6 flat screens and recliners where you could play either Xbox 360 or PS3 games, they had arround 5-7 little cubicles with chairs and computers to play computer games, it was cool as hell.

It was fun to play in such a huge battle, this will be the last time i play my Orcs for a while, the boys deserve a rest, i'll be playing my Tomb Kings and building up on them for now on.

Max, isn't that exactly what the 40k Hardboyz tournament was last year? Why are you hating on Fantasy all the time?

Actually Max, according to the little article you put out a month ago, about powergaming haters, the Ard Boyz is the ultimate expression of skill. It's how the game should be played with no worry about fluff and balance, just pure strategy, my best against your best, mano a mano. Purity of essence.

Eh, I'm still a fluff man myself. Let the powergamers keep it to themselves, I just want to enjoy the game.

Cheese fest is not really fun, balancing out a great painted army with some serious comp is good thats why GT's are balance of power.

Man...what ever you've been smokin'...give me some! Army Comp comprises such a small part of a GT that if you are the best general with the nastiest list and are a quassi-jerk, with decent painting, you'll win the whole thing. Look at the last High Elf player to win a GT...a Uber-character on Star Dragon, 3 mages and minimum everything else, except for a large unit of Swordmasters and Dragon Princes...no balance in his list. At least 'Ard Boyz did away with the pretense of "balance" that the GTs strive to achieve.

All the top guys, " purists" if you will, wish that they did away with army comp.

While that is somewhat true I have explained how to win Adepticon GT or invitational before. You cant just win on battle, it's impossible if there are alot of people.
