The skin is a mix of goblin green and dark angels green, with blended highlights of goblin green and a little sunburst yellow. Then 2 washes of green ink and matte acrylic medium. The belly is a progression of scorched brown, bestial brown, snakebite leather, and bleached bone, with a wash of brown ink.
Discovering blending after years of drybrushing has been fantastic. It's a lot more work, but it's really worth the results.

Lookin' Good!
Heya Matt or Stephen..... Is it the same rules for the 3/1 paint contest in that it must be something new and yet unseen?

Re: Lord Huixipotecatl WIP
Very nice- first time working with it? The overall effect is great. The only thing that bugs me with him is the bronze seems too mono compared to the rest of the model. The more you do it the better you'll get, the more transitional the layers will become, and THE LONGER IT WILL FUCKING TAKE. Ok. Got that out.
also, the belly looks a little hard contrasted, are the colors mixed (in various degrees) up to the higher shade?

Re: Lord Huixipotecatl WIP
I actually started blending a while back, but I'll still rush it, even for characters. If I can't see a noticeable highlight with each layer I paint on, I feel I'm going too slow, and I don't have the patience to take my time for a trully smooth effect.
The bronze is still at the base coat stage, I didn't have time yesterday to start the highlights and shading, that's why it looks so flat.
I agree the belly's contrast is a bit too much. I think I left too much of the scorched brown showing. I might fix that today.

Re: Lord Huixipotecatl WIP
I know, I painted him just like the standard slann from the armybook, boring right? Maybe I'll try something more adventurous with the saurus. I have this radical new concept: blue saurus with red shields!

Re: Lord Huixipotecatl WIP
Matt as always my jaw drops.
I agree I think you could have gone more "out of the box" with the slann. A quick google search brings this:
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=dart+frog&gbv=2
http://images.google.com/images?q=horned+frog&gbv=2&hl=en&sa=2
Something in there would be AWESOME!

I think we should stick to the rules for painting we set for the last tournament NO?

Re: Lord Huixipotecatl WIP
what were those rules? I don't really have something that I haven't posted here, or am using (even though wip)- guess I shouldn't have posted it if we use those rules-
What if it isn't completed?
-edit: ah, found the painting thing

Re: Lord Huixipotecatl WIP
I haven't discussed this with Stephan yet, but it should be something painted especially for the competition. That's my interpretation of "something we've never seen before" rule from last tournament. It's not something you need to hide during your games prior to the tournament for fear of not being able to enter it into the competition.
Now, the tournament is coming up real soon, so I wouldn't enforce the "painted especially for the competition" rule this time. If you can whip something up in time, great, otherwise bring something you've painted that HASN'T been entered into previous competitions.
Oh, and Lord... (*looks at how his name's written*) Huxipotecatl, AKA Lord Kermit is done:

I'm very happy with the green skin. The highlights and shading are the smoothest I've managed to produce so far. The belly was redone, with less scorched brown showing, but the shadows are still in very deep contrast. Still, happy with it.
I primed him in MATTE varnish (there Stephan, now he can even compete in a Golden Daemon!), but I picked out the eyes, gold and mouth with gloss varnish.

Re: Lord Huixipotecatl WIP
Allright,
So basically, anything that hasn't been entered before. Which means, Bill if you'd like to enter your Shaggoth or if you'd like to enter your Dreadlord with the big boobs Chris, it's no problem.
Let's limit it to fantasy though, just to keep with the theme.
