Rohan(Eric) vs Bill (Fallen Kingdoms)

Eric and I played our first game today. It was a take the high ground scenario. We set up a tower in the middle of the board to capture. Eric won priority the first round and that was the last time he won it for the rest of the game. Both sides advanced. I held my Watchers of Karna in Ambush. On round two my Watcher ambushed from the tower and held it for the game.My archers were charged by some of Erics cavalry. He forgot to add 6 extra attacks for the charge and I eventually won the fight after a couple of rounds. Erics archers took out my Haradim cavalry. Eventually Amdur with his men and Mungo got into a huge melee with Erics two cavalry units and Infantry. Theoden sacrificed himself to prolong the fight and Eomer made the mistake of dueling with Amdur twice. Eventually I won...my Watchers held the tower even after taking casualties from arrows. It was a good game. The dice gods cursed us both,but took extra pleasure in torturing Eric. He lost priority every round but the first and that was just the begining or Erics rolling woes. Eric did put up a good fight reguardless and many Easterlings did fall to his men.

Nice battle report and great pics! Sorry to hear that the dice gods were cursing ya! That +6 dice probably woulda helped, its what makes cavalry worth it!

750 pts. And I really messed up on that first Cavalry charge. I only added +6 dice and +D3 dice for the unstoppable charge to my total not to each company fighting directly. So, I short changed myself 7 or more dice. It was our first game ever and neither had played before. We messed up on a few rules here and there. I really liked the game overall. But If you don't wipe out a unit pretty badly or completely on a charge, cavalry are done in the next round. They get swamped by infantry after that. And same goes for the troll. I had him dead until I rolled that 1, after that it was impossible to kill him . Fun game though. I like that you dont have to roll 3 times to score a wound. Rolling once makes the game run faster and smoother. And its balanced becaus you ususally need 5 or higher to score a casualty.

Cavalry is fast(obviously) and can be devastating on the charge. As Eric said though they do get bogged down as they only get 2 attacks per company.

Im gonna pick up a Mordor Troll Captain. Just for Eric.

Its funny,all this hoopla about WotR and we post a battle report with pics and get almost no responses or comments. Come on people...Jerry,JC,your the LotR poster boys.

Well they probably were playing today. It seems like Jerry checks every other day or so. As for JC, who knows!

Not like the movies where they just sweep through ranks of Uruk hai pikemen with ease.

I've always thought that Cavalry armies are really hard to play. A lot more maneuvering need to occur and you have to be very patience. That is a univseral rule with cavalry I think.

Is all about that charge, kinda like bretonians, if they cant get you on the charge then they are screwed. You are faster than he is, see if you can time 2 charges at the same time, that should break him down..and not forgetting to roll 7 xtra dice would prob help

Rok, I check several times a day (work schedule permitting, some people shoot the breez or smoke, I read the post). Saturday and Sunday I don't log in at all, so that's why I have not responded. Now I am out of time. Will update Tuesday.

I believe Calvary is very formidable.

Remember once the fight has been resolved, you separate the companies about an inch, so both sides can declare a charge next turn.

That's six dice per COMPANY, not formation. That is six dice for every Calvary company on the front line in base contact with the opponent.

Also you can charge twice in the same turn if you roll a six on a D6 (page 50, see box on "Earth-Shaking Charge").

My suggestion to Eric is to call "Epic Strike" when dueling. But against Amdul who also has "Epic Strike", and worse "Epic Duel" it is almost pointless to get involved in a duel.

Everyone is still getting use to the rules. The game has been for less then a month.

I glad to see you enjoyed you first outing of WotR.
