Showin' off Monolith Conversions
Ignore the marred paint job - it was my first time working with epoxy putty, and it was really strong, so I kind of messed up some of the paint job. Not sure how to fix it yet. Have some theories I might explore.
Anyway, behold the Monolith Formation. Some of you have already seen my light up monolith from last year. I added another one...plus something special for a Doomsday 'Lith conversion.

A plasma sculpture - priceless!
I actually have 2 of those, which shows that I'm both, a product of the 80s and a pack rat.

Re: Showin' off Monolith Conversions
Thank you gentlemen! It was a real pain to make, particularly since those plasma balls are actually really sturdy! I almost burned out my dremel destroying the plastic casing of the original toy to get at the meaty innards.
Frank: Woo, Necron players unite!
Hey shadow, you have two? That's awesome! I actually had to find one online, but man they rock.
Mike: It's fun! Though I wonder, did you come up with the idea yourself or is there a more professional version of this conversion out on the net? I got the idea one afternoon when Joel kicked Chris, John, Caesar and I out of the store to make a top secret phone call. We were talking about what would be awesome necron conversions at some point.
I was hoping someone on the interwebs had done this before so I could get an idea how - there was a LOT of guessing in what I did, and I wish I had had some sort of model! But in then end I like how it came out.

Re: Showin' off Monolith Conversions
Yeah - I got them way back in college when I was working in the warehouse at Service Merchandice.
Today, my kids use them in their rooms.

Re: Showin' off Monolith Conversions
Yeah it's been dine before. I saw some pics on cool mini or not and thought it looked like a good idea if I ever wanted to build one. After all this monoliths are pretty much hollow.
Me though there is that one monolith in the Apoc book with the large free rods. Now lighting that up would look nasty;)

Re: Showin' off Monolith Conversions
question on the plasmalith, is it batter operated? i would assume the others are lit with LEDs and take little-to-no energy but the plasmalith would take a fair bit more.

Re: Showin' off Monolith Conversions
Yup, battery operated. The LEDs use a 9 volt, which I made a little hatch on the bottom for. The plasma takes a massive 4 AAs, so that was a pain to set up, Basically what I did is, you see the front skull flap thingy? THat's actually held together by Velcro, and the green gate underneath is not glued, but rather just wedged in. Behind them is the battery casing and the plasma light switch (and behind that is the circuit board for it).

Re: Showin' off Monolith Conversions
You should build and sell them on ebay. I bet you could turn a profit;) Me I keep thinking I'll sell something but I just can never commit to get rid of anything.

Seeing how there is question on who may have done one before him and some of the replies in this thread aren't all that great I might as well join and post up my info. My info was posted on the web before he did his

I'm rightly impressed! I wish I had known about you when I did this, man I could've used tips and pointers. I sure as hell didn't figure out how to do the side lighting though I wanted to!
