Are we Hard Core?
Are we Hard Core?
I think we are. You guys are really evil with your lists. I honestly enjoy playing them though. Reading online about how some people wont play each other based on what army you play seems very weak. I truly think we can take some of those "Best Players"out in Texas. I have a friend who lives out there and I am planning to visit hopefully soon. Think I am going to bring my stuff. What do you guys think?

I know 40k. Still curious about fantasy players. Pretty sure it is the same thing there.

Re: Are we Hard Core?
if you refuse to play someone based on what army they're playing that makes you weak.

Re: Are we Hard Core?
Hell yeah, I mean, the shit I did to your mom last night? That shit is illegal in like 39 motherfuckin' STATES!
... I kid, I kid. We are pretty competitive, but we have to be. Otherwise the WC guys would keep driving down to rape face and steal all our tournament money any chance they got.
That and we have had Chris level people who came to the store so often, they should have a VIP table. Practice increases skill unless you deliberately refuse to learn.
Though I do like trying things like Planetfall, Battle Missions, and who knows, maybe a campaign some day.
I know on my end, I play some seldom, I always end up playing lists in preparation of tournaments or only really playing at tournaments, and who doesn't try to win at one of those?

Re: Are we Hard Core?
Nobody has a hardcore attitude, but we all make some pretty mean lists. Lists that would get an evil eye at a store like Tate's where they play more in theme.
I build NASTY lists, but so do my opponents so it all evens out in the end.

So maybe we should get together one day at Tates on their gameday and send them crying.

Re: Are we Hard Core?
Theres lot of folks who play at Tates who just like the universe and play for fun. They don't care that they lose all the time, so your not going to have them crying.

Re: Are we Hard Core?
That's the catch Spyder - you'll find your paint and sportmanship scores hammered so hard you won't win.

Re: Are we Hard Core?
I am not to sure about how hard core Tates would be compared to you all down south. They are right it is more of a laid back thing up here go in throw some dice have a good time forget about all the other shit in your life. Do not get me wrong there are times that the army lists can get nasty but I would say on an average it is more of fluff/theme army list at least that is what I remener last time I played back in Oct. 09.

Re: Are we Hard Core?
Yea it's still like that with a bunch of the regulars at the shop. For tournies though they bring in very large crowds including the very competitive folk.

Re: Are we Hard Core?
That's my favorite thing about tourney day Garry - game from sunup to sundown!
We need to play another 4 player madness battle - that was an awesome 6 hour game (that you won when the Giant fell on the Daemon Prince, killing him, and leaving you the deciding token uncontested)! Let's play that again!

Re: Are we Hard Core?
You can be sporting and still utterly annihilate your opponent it just takes a little restraint. As for the painting, I hear they do beautiful work.
And never underestimate a "fluff" list. Anything in the 40k universe is capable of destruction if used effectively.

Re: Are we Hard Core?
Depends on your definition of hard core. Is a hard core gamer one who builds the ultimate destruction list, min maxed to the hilt? Or is a hard core player someone who takes the equivalent of a dagger into a fire fight, and STILL pulls of results?

Re: Are we Hard Core?
There are some true artists at Tate's - I'm talking Chris level painting.
Garry is one of them, though I doubt he'd admit to it.
Brad (Bonegrinder) is another.
Neil also does great work.
All these guys paint better than I do. I still don't think I ever deserve an 8 (out of 20) in painting, but whatevah.... it was a fun day of games and I met 8+ new players.

Re: Are we Hard Core?
Many people from all over flock to Tate's for the same reason that sharks swarm when there's blood in the water.
Down in So-Fla, the fishies have teeth. That's why Tate's was packed, and Joel's was empty (save for Marc Parker and the WC, who enjoy swimming with sharks like us.)
Are we harder than Tate's crowd? Most definitely. Hardcore enough to give the WC a run for their money? Again, absolutely -- I know I've played and beaten Brian and Max about as often as they beat me, Josh is wickedly good, Chris was a crafty fellow, Luis is fairly pro, and my girlfriend is actually kicking my ass about half the time. On top of that, we have a ton more newer players down here with the attitude, and the understanding that Winning At All Costs does not make you a douche on principle -- it's genuinely the way you play that counts, and if you manage to snatch victory by a single inch, or a single lucky melta shot, or whatever, and if you're not the kind of guy who'd settle for a minor victory, when a massacre is easily had (I know I'm not), then you're not doing anything wrong. Being a prick during the game is one thing, but if the people in Tate's would shaft someone in a tourney with bogus sportsmanship scores because they refused to pull their punches, then I'd hate to play a tournament at Tate's.
Down here, we're hardcore. But, we're also gentlemen (and women), by and large, and that's just as important as being a tactical genius.
