We've lost a legend, Men.
Well,
I am sad to report the death of a great man. A man that helped prolong my virginity as a youth. A man that borught us imagination and a drawing toward like minded people. A man who basically gave life to the RPG.
RIP GARY GYGAX died today....he was 69 years old. May your +5 holy avenger roll a critical every time it is wielded up there in the big Dungeon in the sky.

I shall say a prayer to Nurgle for him. Ant 20th Level Clerics out there...you can sacrifice one point of constitution to cast a resurect spell on him.

It just goes to show, even high level characters eventually fail a savings throw or two. I wonder if someone will find a way to resurrect him and what effect resurrecting him will have on his constitution.

Re: We've lost a legend, Men.
Gary Gygax is the father of the roleplaying Genre.. so essentially we all need to pay homage to the man. Without him, there would probably be no Warhammer or Games Workshop for that matter.
Gygax, along with his partner who's name I always forget not only invented the paper and pen roleplaying system, but basically created many of the archetypes that we know of today in modern fantasy. While elves, dwarves, and halflings can be credited to Tolkien, many other fantasy creatures such as ogres, giants, dark elves, and many undead creatures came from Gygax's borrowing of folklore from around the world.
More importantly however, Gygax invented and popularized concepts that have dominated the fantasy world ever since. The class system comes from Gygax and are now part of modern culture. The warrior, magic user, thief, and cleric are archetypes now and can be seen very easily in the WOW system. The attributes so common to roleplaying games, Strength , Dexterity, Int. Wis. Constitution, and Charisma, come from Gygax.
So have the ideas of alignment, such as lawful good and chaotic evil.
The man was a forward thinker, who unfortunately never received the credit he deserved for being the father of the modern fantasy world in essence.
