[WoTR] Are Pikes worth it?

So.

I'm looking at my options for 1000 pts (probably not going to go too far beyond this) and I'm trying to decide if Pikes are worth it or not.

So, while I need to reread the rules real quick, how has everyone felt pikes have been in War of the Ring? If I took them I'd have a pretty sizable block (4 companies) to work with.

With pikes cavalry do not get +6 attacks per company on the charge...only +2. Also you get +1 to your fight. If you have a 4 it becomes a 5. I think the drawback is no charge bonus,but the good outweigh the bad.

Well, another disadvantage is a lack of sheilds making your defense a bit lower too.

They still get a +2? I was under the impression that you recieve NO charge bonuses.

I'm gonna look at the book tonight.

Its reduced to +2 as if they were charging cavalry. I could be wrong though.

Pikes give no charge bonus, but they also negate any charge bonus against the formation.

They also give the +1 to fight value.

You can have pikes and shields on the same company, they are not considered 2 handed.

Also, I'd aim your final build for 1500 points as that is the 'official' GW tourney point size for WoTR

Pikes are great for defending critical parts of your army (archers? ballista?) and are also great for certain scenarios! I'm working on a 1000 point army too, after I have a comfortable list set up I'll throw in those last 500 points (this will probably be my cavalry)

I only played against pikes once, and simply swept around the flank and hit them from the side. So, they weren't so good in my opinion.

yeah, I think they're situationally appropriate at best. though they'd be a pain in the ass of any army that is predominantly cavalry.
