imagine that thing throwing out solid slugs??? eek. i had seen this a couple months back on that discovery show, i think it's called "Futureweapons" it's pretty cool, especially when the host (the bald guy) gets to fire an .50 cal sniper rifle (um, there *was* a target there before, right?)

I want this one on the front of my car!!! Good music to listen to while playing a game of WH40K or WHFB, too...

Wrong.....

The fastest vulcan cannon in production at the moment fires 10,000 rounds per minute. Where did you get a million rounds a minute Sam? Perhaps changing all those lightbulbs in the Air Force skewed your ability to count.

First, see where I put "supposedly," I guess I should have highlighted that. Also, it's not a production model...it was supposedly tested in the outback in Australia...does look impressive, whether it's 10K or 1M rounds a minute...I still want it on the hood of my car!

And, we don't count in the Air Force...we have computers that do it for us!!!

Well you see JC. He said SUPPOSEDLY......so that absolves him from claiming that a weapon can fire well over 16,000 rounds a SECOND......heheheh......I guess we all make outlandish claims sometimes.

You are on some good drugs today stephan.......show me evidence...not youtube videos......Kep the psychoactive stuff fpr the patients.....They aren't firing a 100 million rounds a minute.....until I am am proven wrong, your claims are preposterous. even if it was a fraction that fast, it's still not a production weapon used by the military....It's a weapons designer's pipe dream.

Metal Storm uses a magnetic coil to drive the projectiles to insanely fast speeds (IE - A Railgun). Metal storm has been in development for some time now, and what its ment by being capable of 100,000,000 rounds, is thats its maximum potential that it can attain if it had that much ammunition. of course the weapon doesen't really fire 100,000,000 rounds a minute (atleast not yet) because the rail gets damaged after several shots.

Not a rail gun. Not even close. The projectiles still use a propellant, whereas a railgun would use the electromagnetic charge only as the impetus for moving the projectile. The similarity to a railgun would be the induction firing mechanism OUTSIDE the barrel which would trigger the propellant, and then the only similarity would be the fact that it uses induction (like your electric toothbrush uses to charge).

And still "theoretical" 1,000,000 rounds per minute.
Means that:
1.) if you could load that many rounds into the tubes which feed this beast and keep it in a managable magazine (i don't think the Army/Navy/Marines/Air Force [sorry Sam, you guys come last] or random "soveirgn nation" would want a system like this that weighs in at 30 tons.)
2.) and you can keep barrel pressures low enough to avoid over-heating (i've read and heard stories of SAW operators watching their barrels turn red hot during an extended firefight, now imagine that multiplied hundreds of times with the rate of fire this would allow)

you may be able to fire 1,000,000 rounds per minute. however, to lower barrel pressure you would need to drop the rate of fire which (obviously) would mean not meeting your required 1,000,000 rounds per minute.

I can stick a bag of marbles up my ass and shoot them like a shotgun. The metal storm thing could probably shoot 100000000000 rounds a minute if you have 100000000000000000 barrels on the same gun shooting at the same time. Its all theoretical bullshit. We dont need all of these bullshit weapons...how about we fix the economy so a middle class family can afford a house. How about we work on a fuel efficient engine or alternate fuel sources. No lets make a gun that can shoot 50000000000000000000 rounds a millisecond so we can kill more of those Muslim people. Come on who the fuck are we in an arms race with...the Taliban, those primitive monkeys still live in the time of Jesus. Im with you on this one Phil.
