Re: 2000 pt 40K Tournament on Feb 13th
Question: for mission three, if the opponent neither controls nor contests the objective, the only way you could really get a major victory is if BOTH players just ignore the second objective? Lol. Just trying to see if I understand properly. Because if he neither controls nor contests, that means you either control it or both people said "Nah... forget that objective... thats in my/my opponents deployment zone..."
If thats the case, its kind of silly, but I guess it'd be difficult to do it otherwise.

It is poorly worded but only for the minor victory. I don't follow what you are saying. If you control an objective and they neither contest nor control either objective that is a major victory. I don't know what ignoring the second objective for the winning player would do, if he controls both he gets a massacre.

Re: 2000 pt 40K Tournament on Feb 13th
okay... So lets give a scenario
Minor victory scenario: I take my home objective, contest their objective. I get a minor victory.
Massacre: I take my home objective, I take their objective. I massacred.
here's where I'm like "wha?"
Major victory: I take my objective... now he can't control or contest either objective, which means he MUST NOT BE within 3" of either objective. BUT, if I control both objectives, then I massacre. So in order to get a major victory, I'd have to not have a scoring unit within 3" of his objective.... Makes it kind of a massacre or minor victory scenario, or maybe I'm just being brick-headed

Re: 2000 pt 40K Tournament on Feb 13th
If they can't even contest one of the objectives that is much better than if they can. I think your thought process is legitimate, the Objective itself is problematic. It's just a flat out bad Objective. I have been inspired by other missions and will only run modified versions of it in the future. Here are two examples.
Spearhead deployment - Objectives in center of quarters that are not deployment zones. Minor is control one more objective than opponent with equal or less kill points than opponent, Major is control one more objective than opponent with more kill points than opponent, and Massacre is control both.
Pitched Battle - One objective in each deployment zone, not within 8 inches of table edge. One objective in center of board. Minor is control one more than opponent, Major is control two while opponent controls or contests 0, and Massacre is control all 3. (I am completely open to suggestions that make for a more complete mission, not only on this but any mission)
To give credit on these the first is basically just an Ard Boyz mission and the second was created by Chris at Tate's and used in his tournament that he ran last sunday. I will probably be using all 3 of Chris's missions in a group of 9 missions that include all 3 deployments and objectives in each combination. I'll work on them over the next month or two, type them and package them together and leave the copies at the store with the players so people can play the missions. Hopefully I won't have to run more than 4-5 of the monthly tournaments this year but when I have to I and the players will be prepared.

The scenarios are randomly rolled up from the rule book. The margin of victory is listed on page 1. The first round starts at 1PM so be there by 12:45 at the latest if you want to start your first game on time.

Called joels and he said nids are welcome in tourny tomorrow. Something about ok after 30 days. There is alot of confusion with rules at the moment with codex. How is this to be resolved? Will inat FAQ be used or situational rulings.

Re: 2000 pt 40K Tournament on Feb 13th
Well as far as I know the only confusion is with the Doom of Malantai and transports and I don't think anyone is using it. The Mawloc reads that it doesn't start under people so GW will have to FAQ that. I would like to use the Adepticon FAQ but as many have pointed out on the internet before, it is not 100% acceptable by all. Some of the rule interpretations in it are just rules that are made up, not even just RAI.
Hopefully the battle missions book will come out soon and we can start playing those missions. These rule book missions are getting old. Kill points sucks, and capture and control is a pain in the ass unless you modify it. I am replacing Annihilation(Kill Points) with Control Table Quarters in all tournaments I run. I recently played in the Escalation tournament at Tate's and all 3 games were objective based missions. I have to say it was one of the best if not the best tournaments I have ever played in. So F U KPs!!! I'm done with that crap. And no VPs either, that was always really easy to exploit if not easier than exploiting KPs.

Re: 2000 pt 40K Tournament on Feb 13th
Alright so we need to do something for future tournaments to insure that they are run monthly. Most of the people playing on saturday seem to be interested in playing a tournament every month.
I have an idea about there being a pool of players who can possible run the tournament. Entering the pool is voluntary on the date of the tournament. This would be like a lottery. A person from the pool is randomly selected and they run the tournament. For their time and the fact that they cannot play that day they receive $35 store credit from Joel. To make sure no one gets picked too often they can choose when to enter the pool in future tournaments.
Any other ideas about how to get the tournaments to be run consistently? We don't have many volunteers. If we only did one when we had a volunteer they would be quarterly. If we get enough ideas and there is no consensus we could start a poll.
