Scurrdi, you have not even seen the book yet, give it a chance.
Kyle, beautiful, thanks for sharing the picture. That's better then freedom fries. I wonder if that was an subversive intentional message.

Re: Early War.....
I'm personally not interested in Early War either, most of the more interesting stuff didn't come in till Mid-Late era, and Early War is going to involve mostly making completely new armies with almost all new figs.

Re: Early War.....
It's not going to be new rules, it's still going to be based on the main rule set.
It's going to be what they've done so far, a large book or two to cover generic armies, and then smaller battle books for certain campaigns. I know they've already talked about the first book covering the fall of Poland and France.
I probably won't get into it, but it will be fun, and very different in feel.

Re: Early War.....
Early war will be nice. No heavy German tanks running around. Germans troops are second to none, but theyll have to be more tactful when dealing with Heavy French and Brit tanks. No Panzerfausts,Piats or bazooka's running around.
I would think they have the Poles, maybe Yugoslavia,Greece,Belgian,Netherlands,Norway? You have the winter War in early 1939...the Finns held their own against the Russians. North Africa, early war Italians. That would be a challenging army to field. Give it a chance guys. Take a look at the book when it comes out.

You can get the early war trial rules off of the Battlefront forum: Confident Conscripts at best, iirc. Human wave tactics are factored in (infantry and light tanks), as is the chance that your 'modern' field guns may run out of ammo due to production shortages for their calibre.

Re: Early War.....
I'm interested...on the other hand, it doesn't sound like it would make for a balanced game. I mean, didn't Early War consist of Germany going around kicking everyone in the teeth?
I heard they're going to have a Polish army. Again, I wonder if it can really be balanced.

That's more or less (based on perspective) not accurate. Without starting a flame-war over Germany's success early on, it's safe to admit that they had superior doctrine although they lacked on a logistical front.

I think it presents an excellent opportunity to do "What If" battles, which are a major interest for me and I am certain other players.

Re: Early War.....
Exactly, and Poland may have been different from the little bit I have read.
Would if the other countries had been fully mobilized, how much of a difference on the outcome of the battles? Would Germany have easily roll through Europe?
It would make an interesting campaign.
A lot military success for the Germans occurred on surprise mostly, yes?

Re: Early War.....
To a degree. They were essentially a better army than most. Id say tactics won most of their battles...and 1st rate troops and commanders at all levels.

Re: Early War.....
If you review the French fighting history the only time they had a decent commander was with a French peasant girl.
Joan of Arc, ended the hundred year war in two and her thanks was to be burn at the stake.

Re: Early War.....
Joan of Arc was a nut. She inspired the French army she wasnt any type of leader. It was the French commanders with "inspired troops" defending their homeland.

Re: Early War.....
Doesn't matter, since it's a point based game. It's not truly historic when it's based on a point based system that has players fielding supposedly balanced sides. The war was not balanced or had even pointed match ups.

Re: Early War.....
Rok, off subject, but Joan did more then I think you are aware.
The French had been defending the homeland for nearly a hundred years pretty badly, she rapidly turn everything around. I think this accomplishment impossible simply from a little 17 year nut job cheer-leading from the side.
Joan pick the attacks, location, timing, managed resource etc. She lead the charge into every battle she was involved, although she never fought.
The leaders tried to shove her to side, but she prevailed.
Read "Joan of Arc - A Military Leader" by K. Devries, for the details.
