What army for a newbie
So, my 8 year old is very interested in playing fantasy. I have part of a skaven army so it wouldn't take to much to add to it. What does everyone else recommend as a easy army for a new/young player that is just starting out. Oh, and i will be doing most of the painting so that isn't an issue.

Re: What army for a newbie
I think one of the armies you can make fairly straight forward is Bretonnia. Just get some knights, point them at the enemy, and go. It shouldn't be too bad for an 8 year old to grasp.

Shooting heavy armies usually are the easy mode for players to get into a game.

Re: What army for a newbie
Well with my limited experience, 8 year olds like to play by pushing stuff into each other. Cars, GI Joes, etc....

Re: What army for a newbie
Well if you can get an 8 year old to actually be able to play the game, good luck. Fantasy is much more than just ramming units into each other, and hopefully the kid doesn't go crazy with that

Re: What army for a newbie
Brits are a good army for him but they are horiable to paint take my word for it.
Also a straight forward empire army has the knights, canons and all that other fluff stuff a kid would like.
Dwarfs would be easy for him again staight forward army not using all there weird stuff
I would stay away from Skaven, Dark Elf, Tomb King, Ogre, Vampire counts
Also what army would you like as a second army something that when you are not teaching him to play that you can toke to a gaming store and have fun with so if he looses intrest you get a second army.

Re: What army for a newbie
As gay as they sometimes seem... I've always like the high elves! I think he might be leaning towards them. Luis, hold on to those elves bc we will want to trade with you. What kills me is a box of 10 phoenix guard is like 41 bucks for 10 models! That's just crazy! Are the HE's played in blocks of 20 or what?

Re: What army for a newbie
I got them with me if you want them, i'll trade them for your Skaven.
It all depends how you want to play them, you can take a block of 40 for a very expensive, potentlly very hard hitting Horde. Or you can go variety for a funner list and keep it at 20.
20 Swordmasters arranged Horde Style is a horrible thing to face.
Also, grab 40 seaguard, add volley fire and you can turn the sky black with arrows.
High elves are very strong in this edition, plus the new models look pretty damn sweet.
Oh yeah, if you think 10 Phoenix guard are expensive at 10 bucks, ask Rob how much he spent to build his 40 strong Metal unit.

Well, HE are pretty good.
Don't forget, I'm looking to sell my entire HE army, so we can chat about it, though most are the older models. Some like the Swordmasters haven't changed yet.

Re: What army for a newbie
JC had some dipped rats that looked great.
One coat of FLAT brown spray paint and your half way home.
Get a few shades of brown and work it like a desert camo kit over the whole unit.
Add the metals details
Dip and done
