I am starting to somewhat understand the hate between editions, but who really cares? I know I have to embrace the rules personally and let go of getting smacked hard the few first times. "Just Play", should be the new motto. I know I must have all that new man-boob goodness. Expect my Ogres to be ready by October. September is my birthday, so perfect timing.

8E had lot of awesome ideas when it was announced, but it sadly didn't play out so well when the game came out. Really they needed to have redone all the armies for the new edition, instead of slowly updating each army while attempting to keep things in parity.

The rules changed the game greatly, and really the armies needed a complete reboot. Basically like what Privateer did with WM/Hordes MK2. Everyone got updated and refined around the new edition.

Every army? Not every army did well in the last edition. How did this edition rectify that? Wood elves, tomb kings, ogres, and orcs are all as terribad in this edition as they were in last. Heck goblins were a better army than orcs....

Well the new Tomb King and Orc are hot shit man. The Tomb Kings work differently but they are a rather nasty book ask luis. Oh he won a few events in 7th with them aswelll

Goblins still die in droves....trust me Orcs T4 and that the choppa applies to everything that they use makes them way better by far. Trust me Black Orcs with Choopa rule is nothing to laugh at, or better yet Savage Orcs with Duel Choopaz!!!!!

The fact that goblins are cheap is nice but when you consider their lords have an 8 for leadership (common), WS 2 is so much to write home about....yes i have 55 in unit but one mortar can kill about 40 of them in one shot!!! Fanactis only do D6 and you still get your saves, well at minus 3 but still. Yes in 3,4,5,6 they where the end all to be all. They fear all elves, cant declare waagh, only get one magic banner (that is BSB) if field a per goblin army. Oh and the little nijna upgrades are not that hot.

Orcs are better trust me, hell slaves are better but then again they are stubborn on LD5. Stubborn units can not use the general's leardship.....(i could be wrong will check when i get home)

Last Edition when we had tournies, Matt would run his Orc army and kick the snot out of most of us. I will say this thou it took some one that knew what they were doing to win with them. Same goes for Orges........Sergio also did great with his orges.

8th only made them better (my opinon), Stomp rule added was nice, then unlike other units that ony get 1 supporting attack from the back rank they get full amount of attacks. that can hurt abit. Now i will say this the low armour save and low I hurts them with out a doubt. Also you have you think that now you have to kill one when you hit the unit with a bolt thrower before it goes to the next one is huge!!!!!

Ok a BT does d3 wounds. In 6 n 7th it worked like this aslong as you wound the model they take d3 wounds then move to the next, if you wound d3, then again, then again till you failed to wound.

In 8th it works like this. I shot my Bolt thrower at a unit of orges, i wound the model, but roll 3 on my D3 which mean the orge takes only 2 wound and the shot ends there....That is game changing. ( i used Bolt throwers because they are more common then cannons overall)

On woodelves are tricky.....cause well....they are gay......lol i have not really ever read throu their book...but i know their shotting is something not to laugh at. i know the tree spirit list is no longer that good, But i have heard of some people having fun playing a more elf heavy list using the Lore of Beast and Lore of Life. I think they should have gotten updated instead of the lizardmen in 7th....that book was fine. Now in 7th the Tree army was kick ass from what i have been told. It was on of the lists that where at nationals

All these new Ogres look awesome!

As for issues with the edition - I think we covered it way back when it launched.

The over correction on balance with melee blocks - making them almost unbreakable to anything but a bigger melee block.

New targeting rules which make a @100 point warmachine rediculously dangerous to any monster unit. This goes againt thier own business model to have armies contain expensive centerpiece units. More proof they are total idiots.

Even bigger super uber game ending spells.

The usual 100 grey area and loopholes in the rules which lead to disagreements and 3 hour games.

The removeal of all of the "chess strategy" that was involved with movement and such (fast cav bait, march blockers) into what is now run my hordes into yours and see what the dice say.

Now more than ever, Fantasy is a hobby with a beer and prezels game attached. The players recognize this and it shows in event attendance. Nobody is playing right now. Everyone on BTown is trying to trade out for PP products.

My advice is to go with the flow and pick up a WarmaHordes army.

40k and warmahordes are the definite big boys right now. Flames is probably the next one up. Everything else is sort grouped into a misc. pile.... Infinity, mantic, fantasy, dystopian wars, etc...

Looks like an ogre gunline possible as well. Lead belchers, iron blasters, scraplaunchers and man-eaters with character sniping hand guns. And monsters with big feet and plenty of horns.
