Re: 40K Tournament on Jan 9th
I second that, people seem to be getting REALLY offended at any question to their post.
With regards to the primary/secondary/tertiary thing, maybe Chris should have added what it is that he doesn't like about it, and while he's welcome to flat out not like it, Brian was correct in suggesting a poll. However, I feel Brian could've replied in a manner that didn't read like "Everyone does it this way, it looks good to ME," which is a wee bit like browbeating.
And I second Chris that if we're experimenting with scenarios, the TO shouldn't play as well. No disrespect to Brian, he's a fine and very strong player, but lets say for whatever reason he wins (not unlikely, as I said, he's a strong player), so he collects the top prize money, the TO money, and it pretty much feels like his own personal effect. I don't care how balance the scenarios look in advance, there are going to be people who feel that they were set up.
And no, putting up the scenarios up here in advance is not good enough - I can myself attest that people don't really read them. In fact, last tournament I ran, I had custom scenarios and I'm pretty sure Brian himself didn't read them.
Again, I'm not saying this with any disrespect, it's just what I think.
As for the problem of finding other people to run tournaments, since everyone wants to be a player, maybe we should spread the word to see who wants to do an upcoming tournament on the tournament. I wasn't at the last tourney, so I don't know what discussion may have taken place, but all I see on the forum is people suddenly say "I'm running it, no one else wanted to" without seeing any discussion on the matter.
I could be wrong, I'm just giving Brian an option so he doesn't feel he has to be the backup TO all the time.

Brian:
Thank you for running this tournament. Thank you for your hard work. Although I rarely participate these days, they are always well run when I do show.
I might just show up for this one, but it will depend on how hung over I am.

Justin is right, we should thank TOs more often!
Also thank you for new scenarios to flex our tactical muscle!

Re: 40K Tournament on Jan 9th
It is a little funky with the primary/secondary/tertiary, but it adds that more tactical feel to the game I guess, also allows players that have a low tier army versus a high tier army to get more points by going for other things aside from the primary (in an obvious case where primary is unattainable due to bad match-ups) while forcing the high tier army to play a little smarter and not let their "good" match-up cloud their thoughts and go straight for primary (although winning primary is still very good)
I would actually like to see maybe a solid 20- 30 extra minutes added per round (highly doubtful) due to the fact that there are other missions within the game that must be paid attention, one of my games in the last tournament felt EXTREMELY short, and I consider myself a rather "fast" player (I may be wrong, you guys tell me ) But that's just me, don't give me any grief over a POV !!! .
I'll be there this time around anywho, and guys, I know this game can get competetive and extremely frustrating at times, but when an arguement in sight because of PLASTIC army men, that at best will reward store credit for MORE plastic army men (because it's oh so important) it's best to step away, assess the situation, and come back at it with a clear, respectful response that can clear the air and get us all back into a good mood. Leave those emotions for cursing the dice gods

Re: 40K Tournament on Jan 9th
Well as soon as I posted I wish I had a cooler head. Then again I'm glad my head is as cool as it is cause I almost spilled some beans. I thought Chris's post was snarky and so I responded wtf without actually saying it.
If someone wants to run the 40k tournaments I am happy to let them do it. I post the missions so no one complains about the TO having an edge. This will be less of an issue when the GW missions book comes out. I collect zero money for running tournaments, i think that is wrong. Twice now Joel has offered me money and I declined it. I have never accepted any money for running an event. Even if the TO thinks he is just running the tournament half the time he will forced to be the rounder unless he is going to use byes. If he uses byes and I get one I am going to be mightily pissed. I don't care if it counts for 150% points, I came to play 3 games in a day, not sit around and have a better chance to win the whole thing.
I think Joel should run the tournaments so they go off in a timely fashion without people complaining constantly. Waiting months for a tournament is a bit much.

Its been read... and actually you're lucky because I haven't been looking at the forums that much recently.
For simplicity's sake just tell me when and where you want to pick the stuff up.
Barring a doctor's appointment for my mom or such I should be available... oh and not between about 1pm-5pm Thursday (granted you'd most likey want it before then anyways).
We can work the rest of the details out later.

Funny enough, I might be running a little rate too. If the tourney starts at oneish, I can make it, otherwise I may have to drop.

Re: 40K Tournament on Jan 9th
The tournament starts at 1:30 pm so everyone should be good. We are starting later now specifically to increase attendance.
The rules are bring a 2000 pt list. The missions are in this thread. If you have a older non-codex army and you aren't sure if it's legal ask me. As far as other rules let me know what you want to know about.
