White Scars Competitive?

Just kinda curious, as I'm thinking about 40k again but don't wanna have to take 4 cases of stuff (as I do with my IG).

Looking at a bike heavy army using Kahn from the new book. I think they'll be kinda competitive but I'm just curious what everyone thinks.

Would posting a list help?

I think they could be, but it'd be a finesse army. Expensive troops = small model count army.

Just don't do like this guy and show up to a tournament with a Khan-less White Scars army, and start everything in reserve:

Kor'sarro khan is one of the better HQ' special characters (probably 4 to be exact, after Vulkan, Lysander, and Pedro/Shrike). He can outflank with a land raider if he wanted, has hit and run+furious charge, can instant death on a 6( great against the new nids), and makes bikes scoring and make all dedicated transports outflank.

Can be competitive, but an ALL bike army is kinda like doing an ALL jump infantry army (like with blood angels), which isn't great. For fun hell yeah, but to be competitive you would want a nice balance of tacticals in transports, a nice bike squad lead by kor'sarro (or kor'sarro in an outflanking land raider with terminators...but that can fold if you roll bad on reserves) .

I concur the white skars can be a crazy competivite army it just takes finesse. Took me about 6-8 tourney games to get real confident with the ravenwing army. Then fifth edition came out and put it up their pooper. LoL

In 4th the bikes could still come on the board, that must be 5th edition or the guy doesn't know the rules.

Play some games or check out various forums for battle reports. Warseer, Bolter and Chainsword, and Dakka Dakka are probably good places to look for tactics and BRs.

That's 5th edition world championships. The guy got tabled before the game starts by a line of infiltrating kroot.

I'm still confused, why was he unable to deploy his army?

LOL He didnt have Kahn i am assuming and thus he couldn't come in off the infiltrate/oppiste table sides.

Also because the Tau player boxed in his normal side of the board he had no where to place the models without being an inch away from an enemy unit. *Think deep striking*

Yeah, but I thought Outflanking just meant that you have THE OPTION to come in on your opponent's table, not required to.

you can't out flank unless you have the special rule.

Without Khan you don't have that...he's just running a bike army that's illegal because Khan makes his bikes troop choices, that would be with me running an entire ravenwing army without sammauel! LoL

Special Characters were not allowed in the tourney pictured. A generic captain on bike lets you take bikes as troops, so that's what the kid would have done here. Khan is listed as a captain, which allows his army to have bike Troops, in addition to his Chapter Tactics. Without Khan though, the kid could not outflank and therefore could not deploy.

I follow all of this execpt the end. Why wouldn't he be able to deploy?? Couldn't he just deploy normally and be done with it?

The kroot are blocking the kid's table edge. You can never move within 1" of an enemy model except if you're assaulting. The way the kroot are set up, they'll never allow his bikes on the board, as the bikes would always be within 1" of one model or another. If you read the deepstrike mishap table, any unit that never comes out of reserve counts as destroyed. So kroot dude won without a shot being fired, hence the shit-eating grin.

It's a pretty gimmicky trick that would be hard to actually pull off but it's funny to see it happen.

Basically the guy is a retard. He deployed his whole army in reserves when his opponent has multiple Infiltrating units. In the previous edition bikes couldn't be shut off the board, cause like they are bikes and will run you over. The poor soul may have not realized they had removed that clause on reserves.

Where and when was this?

It was in Europe. If i'm not mistaken, it was French and Italian players in that game. Not sure when it went down, but it was probably just a big event. Like a European adepticon.

Oh yeah I remember that now some of the american guys wanted to send a team over there.
