Re: FOW Tournament Sunday, 11/7/10
Put me as a maybe. I just found out I can put together the force, I just have to...er...learn how to play the game. But Ceasar is giving me a crash course hopefully this week, so if I can get the rules in, I'm in.

Re: FOW Tournament Sunday, 11/7/10
Nice tourney. Even nicer turnout. Good job to Julian for first place. My ranger battalion is shaking its fist at the high command jerk off who decided to attack at night versus a commando company in waiting. That general better be demoted.

Re: FOW Tournament Sunday, 11/7/10
Had a great time playing everyone. I still can't believe that I won. I think that I had a bit of luck in each game, but that is always part of it.
Game one against Mike had me facing tanks and some infantry. Not what I wanted, but the terrain was in my favor. Artillery got used as anti-tank guns and did just enough. My commando platoon used the terrain to safely occupy the objective. Mike also never got any reserves, so that ended the game quick.
Game two against Alex. My worst fear, Cauldron against an all tank army with no cover around. (What Brit general would sleep in a field when some houses were 2 min walk away). I got lucky again, getting my reserve churchills on the first roll. Poor artillery guns got shot to pieces, but did there job until help arrived. Smoking his tanks also helped bring the tanks closer to my assault troops. Churchills finished off one platoon, but died holding off another. Commandos finished off another platoon with an assault, but failed to take his beast of a tank (bunkerbuster, no saves, 1+ firepower). Commando's did much better than I though in assaults on tanks. We ended up calling the game at this point.
Last game against Cesar. Fighting withdrawal at night! Always a close and bloody game with us. Luck was with me as I got to defend. I don't think either of us were real happy about the night fight. I think there are positives and negatives for both sides. Concealment helps the attacker move across the board safer, but it also slowed his attack. Probably hurt the fast tanks the most. It still took me forever to take them out anyway. I constantly failed 4+ and 5+ firepower tests all day. Also, his air was grounded for most of the game. In the end our infantry finally get close to each other and we end up assaulting and counter-assaulting. I do the worst on my left, but get to break off to sit on the objective until I remove it. Instead of playing it safe, I assault his commander and platoon on the left side to try and break the company but get pinned and then lose the remainder of one platoon. The other platoon would die the next turn....oops. Thankfully everything else was ok, and removing the last objective ended the game.
Thanks for running the tournament Dan. I'd be interested to hear how other games went, since I didn't get to see much after the first round.
