Apocalypse Game November 14th, 2009

I'll be bringing 4000pts of Eldar.

We need some time to get everything in order. If we don't pair up and wait until the day of it'll take an hour+ (realistically) just to get organized. We could always drop points to make sides even the day of(or earlier).

Hidden forums for each side would be good.

We could always start at 10am if time is a serious consideration.

What is this like 2 games of 2 vs 2 players or is this mega battle style? In what ways is this a tournament, will there be multiple missions during the day?

Oops my bad talking to Joel made me think that. So is this one big mega battle or will it be split up into multiple games?

Also, how strict will WYSIWYG??

I know a rhino land raider proxy is unacceptable, but as far as wargear on models. Let's say I want an entire squad of weapon A + weapon B, but do not have all the bits, or want to ruin my models with bits I wouldnt use outside of the apoc, is that acceptable? So far as I don't have a squad with weapon a through z but each member will have a different weapon on paper, but on the table they all have bolters, which there is obviously no say in who has what.

Alrighty folks, time for an update:

Sign-up sheet is at 9, and I've received 1 army list. If I get one more sign-up and 9 more army lists, I'll formally declare teams and petition that we open forums for both sides.

Answers to questions:

1. It is a Tournament of sorts, in that there's a $10 fee and prizes to the winning side, but in typical fashion everyone walks away with something.

2. It'll be standard apocalypse mission but there will be secret objectives to help push towards standings.

3. Regarding WYSIWYG...proxies have to be standardized and approximate. For example, you have marine squads armed with Plasma guns and tell me all plasma guns in your army are just meltas - that's fair, and I will make a note of that (plus make sure your opponent(s) is/are informed). In other words, the figure is obviously carrying a gun that's different than the rest of the squad, and that gun is consistently the same throughout your army. I will take that.

However, you cannot field 10 bolter marines and tell me that somewhere hidden in there is a meltagun. It makes things much harder to keep track off and throws off your opponent.

Your commander's chainsword can be a power weapon. I'll even let you say all chainswords are really powerfists. But not that some chainswords are power weapons and some are chainfists. Does that make sense?

I'll stop picking on marines now. For vehicles I do let you proxy vehicles of the same hull. You want to field the formation of eldar fire prisms but don't really have enough prisms. I'll let you claim your falcons are also fire prisms if your army has no falcons - every vehicle shaped the same is a fire prism.

If you have any doubts on proxying, let me know in advance and I'll ok or deny. The main goal of WYSIWYG is not to confuse your opponent, and even if you think it you can keep track of it, remember you're potentially fighting 5 people at once, and it becomes a real drag on the game to have 5 people confuse as to what they're trying to kill.

Alrighty folks as of this moment we have 10 people signed up with a 1 person overflow!

Now, I have an idea of what armies will be played, but so far I only have 3 army lists - well, one army lists, two rough army outlines. We're looking at 1 superheavy, 1 tyranid supercreature, a couple of flyers, and some formations. I need clearer pictures before I divide out teams though, so PM me with at least your formations/flyers/superheavies!

It seems like points are more important than the number of players but I guess space is at a premium at Sunshine. Everyone remember that you only have 30 minutes to move your models and get the attention of the controller's of the models you are shooting and assaulting. They may have other people who need their attention too. Just along as you are ok with having some of your stuff do nothing every turn.

The reason for the player cap is because last time there were 20 people. It was a clusterfuck.

Not trying to push the envelope, because I know about the amount of people at the last apoc event, but if there is any space or what not my friends Alex and Charlie would like to come, 4k of orks and salamanders.

Don't Forget the apoc on Sunday as well for those that didn't make the Saturday game.

We should probably have a sign up thread for that too... is anyone in charge of that? Sounds like it will be really random if there isn't.

Updates:

1. The Sunday Game is being run by someone who is NOT part of the forums, and a lot of the players going there are not members of the forums. If you want to sign up to Sunday, call Joel and talk to him as he's handling that signup. Alas, the forum doesn't have all Miami 40k players signed up.

2. I will allow 12 to sign up but we'll see how many actually show up.

3. I've received a handful of lists and got an idea of some of the others, but not all. Once I have all the lists PM to me, then I'll publicly announce teams.

4. There has been talk of bringing units/army lists that are not GW or Forgeworld approved (e.g. fan made and the like). I'm not going to dismiss them offhand but I insist that I be shown these rules well in advance so I can make an informed decision. This doesn't mean showing up on the day of the game and telling me all the cool things your fan made rules do.
I don't mean to be a pain, but I don't want surprises, particularly surprises that may unbalance the game or get people angry. I've PMed one person that keeps mentioning in passing bringing some of that stuff in that they need to get it approved by me beforehand.
I repeat: If you show up to the game with completely unofficial and unapproved stuff that I've never seen up to that point, you will not be allowed to use it, simple as that. It's up to you to show me any of that stuff and get it approved beforehand.

I'm dropping out of this, see you guys in december.
