British Defeat Germans Trying to Hold the Line

First battle was against Don's Grenadier Company with my British Rifle Company.

To start, I had to help build Don's list for him. Turns out he was almost 300 points
short of 1500. I increased the number of teams in each infantry platoon, added a
third infantry platoon and up gunned the tanks to make up points. He played 60 points
shy of 1500.

Despite my attempts to bring order to his list it seemed Don broke the three infantry
platoons into six smaller ones during deployment. Oh well.
Germans had three infantry platoons, Panzer III platoon, Panzer IV platoon, and a
Stug D platoon.

British had two infantry platoons, one infantry tank platoon, one anti-tank platoon,
one recon platoon, one heavy machine gun platoon, one heavy mortar platoon, and
one anti-air platoon. Whew.

Don lost the role and set up as defender in a Hold the Line scenario. I set up my
heavies (Churchill tanks and 6 pounder guns on my left flank and my fast movers
(Universal Carriers and MMG Carriers) on my right. Infantry set up across the
board. Heavy mortars were in their trucks with a plan to move forward before
deploying.

Since the Brits were attacking, this was a Night Fight.
First two turns were spent moving up. Don's unlucky rolling brought only one
reserve platoon on (the Panzer IV) in the first three turns.
With daybreak on my turn the British were in position to assault one of the
objectives.
Things went as planned with one infantry platoon taking the objective with the
Universal Carriers (which made a sweep from the right to the left). The Churchill
tanks covering the assault.
Don's counterattack was brutal. Three Panzer III tanks and a infantry platoon
covered by a heavy machine gun were able to drive off the Universal Carriers
and destroy the British infantry platoon.
All of Don's reserves were on the board by now.
The Churchill tanks and the second platoon were able to retake the objective,
however, destroying the German infantry. Don had nothing close to the objective
that could move to contest it.

The game ended with a British minor victory. Two platoons lost and a third
badly mauled. The German's lost one infantry platoon and their Company
Commander. One other German infantry platoon was reduced to a heavy
machine gun.

Awesome! I saw the game and it looked like a very close game for the most part.

I like Don, but why does he have so much trouble putting a legal list together? He is a U.M. professor.

Sometimes this sort of thing just baffles folks. It's also curious to wonder how long he's been playing with illegal lists for before people started asking about it. I mean if you and your buddies learn the game together and you learn it wrong it's aweful hard to relearn.

Otherwise, sounds like a solid fight dave!

sounds good mate. Ask them how many points they want to bring in total? Prolly 3000 would be ok
