2010 'Ard Boyz 40K
It's that time of year again.... Time to break out the unpainted only primed army of death that's been in your closet for the past year! It's 'Ard Boyz 2010 ! The PDF to pay attention to is going to be located here : http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?aId=9500009 . I will be your friendly TO Cesar, guiding you through a historically accurate re-enactment of WW2! Wait ... wrong game... Moving on. May 15th is the day! Sunshine Adventure Gaming is the place. Bring the mother-load of all armies for your chance to win lots of loot. Couple of things are needed in order for things to go smoothly:
1) I need ALL army lists e-mailed to me no later then MAY 13th!!!!! MAY 13th!!!! May13th !!!! This is to keep me sane on May 15th so I don't have to re-check the validity of your list. Be kind to your TO ! My e-mail is KZKingdomcome@yahoo.com . Or you can PM me here. I do prefer E-mails. Please put in the subject line Ard Boyz and your first name. Please include your email address typed into your email along with your full name. <~~~ helps when we tell GW who we're sending a loot voucher too.
2) Register at the GW.com Online Store. This isn't my rule, it's theirs. Please do so, so you wont miss out on LOOT!
3) Please be on time. I'm speaking to Joel and asking him to open the store at 11am. This is to get people situated, get the pairings together , and it gives me time to validate lists for people not on the forum. If you know someone who is coming to compete and is not on the forums, have him take a look at this post. It helps the friendly TO !
4) Pairings and tables will be announced at 12 o'clock. Dice start rolling at 12:30. <~~~~ My personal goal.
5) There will be penalties for lateness. If you arrive 15 minutes past the start of dice rolling you will be allowed to play IF you have an opponent to play, though you will be docked points. It's not fair to the other guy that arrived on time. If two or more people arrive 15 minutes late and no other opponent is available, they can play each other, but BOTH will be docked points AND will have to play with whatever time is left on the clock. If you arrive 30 minutes after dice have begun rolling, you will be allowed to play IF you have an opponent to play, though you can do NO BETTER THAN TIE and the opposing player can do no worse than tie. Once again, it's not fair to the player that was on time. If you are late by 45 minutes or more, you can not play in the first round of ard boys unless you have an opponent that agrees to play with you. The late party can do no better than tie and the opposing player can do no worse than tie. I will figure out ( by council 'love ya nick' ) how the points docks will be assessed once GW releases the missions. If you are running late call the store and we can do our best to work with your situation : (305) 264-1250
6) If you are traveling in a group from a different LGS, let me know the day of the event and I'll do my best not to pair the traveling parties together for the first round. After the first round, pairings will be determined by the score of the previous round.
7) Make sure you have all of your needed supplies with you. The most important of which will be the 4 extra copies of your army list to give to your opponents through out the day. *Pro Tip of the Day: Pack everything you need the night before the event.*
Rules disputes will be handled in the following fashion: Review your codex, FAQ/Errata, and rule book FIRST before you ask for the Judges (ME) assistance. I will do my best to answer questions with the materials provided. I will have a rulebook handy, but it is the players responsibility to have their codex and Relevant FAQ/ Errata when debating a rule. For the ambiguous rules (I'm looking at you DOOM of ATLANTA) I'll let the players decided how they want that handled. If there is no clear consensus, I will do a roll-off before the start of the event.
*POWER TRIP TIME!* My rulings are final in any phase of the tourney. I encourage everyone to play hard, but be Gentlemen (and Ladies) at ALL times. We are here to have a good time, not bicker for 10 hours like children. If things get out of hand (doubt it) I will ask you to leave. I'm VERY fair and VERY unbiased, but I am a time and respect NAZI. Be punctual and play nice.
Direct any and all questions to this post and I hope to see you all on May15th!

Ok, what is the official ruling from our beloved TO on Mawloc use. My brother wants to use them and we need a ruling asap on this so he can get his list together. Also, how will you treat the doom of mylanta? You mist Rule on this please, it is important.

I'll post a ruling tomorrow night. I'll use what I think GW will do for the Mawlock and I'll try to keep Doom Of Atlanta familiar. Just gotta re-read the rules on both units.

Why would I need the "rule council"? I already said I'd post a response tomorrow night after re-reading the units' rules.

Re: 2010 'Ard Boyz 40K
Just remember, Doom affecting units in transports is based on strict RAW- while Mawloc deep striking on top of units is strictly RAI

I think you might have it backwards : Doom is RAI, Mawlock RAW. Any who , I still gotta look up the unit entry.

Re: 2010 'Ard Boyz 40K
Nope.
Doom follows all the rules. It is 100% legal. It is just as legal as a psychic hood or Sanguinary Priest's FNP effecting units in transports.
The Mawloc, however, does not. The rules of the mawloc does not allow it to be placed on a unit.

Re: 2010 'Ard Boyz 40K
BTW : We're getting into crunch time! Please remember to register with GW and provide me with that E-mail by MAY 13th! While I'm working on the Nids questions, are there any other rules questions I can clarify for any other books? I'll answer them to the best of my ability. I strongly suggest you ask now and not the day of.... Asking now allows me to better prepare, discuss, and hopefully get it right.
*NEWS FLASH* Semi Finals will also be held at Sunshine. So fight hard, cuz the drive won't be far for the Semis..... AND: THE STORE WILL BE OPEN AT 10 AM ON MAY 15TH! SO PAIRINGS AND SUCH WILL HAPPEN FROM 10 TO 11 AM. DICE START ROLLING AT 11AM!!!!!!! LET EVERYONE KNOW OF THIS IMPORTANT CHANGE AS THERE ARE PENALTIES FOR BEING LATE!!!!!!

Re: 2010 'Ard Boyz 40K
RULING:
Doom OF Atlanta : Spirit Leech- Will be able to affect units inside vehicles. Until we get a clear FAQ/Errata from GW, we're going to go with this for ard boyz.
Mawlock: Terror From The Deep- Read and re-read RAW. Looked up impassable terrain, Deep strike rules and Nids Dex Mawlock entry. Mawlock CAN deepstrike onto opposing figs. I was actually surprised it's rules are fairly clear. Just remember if you are touching ANY model (friend or Foe) the Terror from the deep rule kicks in.

Re: 2010 'Ard Boyz 40K
Doom: What do you do for units that suffer 25% casualties in vehicles? Moral test and fall back inside of a vehicle? Are they destroyed?
Mawloc: How exactly do you place the mawloc -literally- on top of an enemy? Deepstrike rules require you to place the model on the board before rolling to scatter and whatnot.

Re: 2010 'Ard Boyz 40K
For doom you'd ignore the morale test needed for 25% casualties inside vehicles. It's an interesting precedent that GW didn't consider. I'm trying to K.I.S.S. the situation AND keep people happy.
Mawlock: Why wouldn't you place the model? To be considerate of other players I'd suggest the nid player(s) place a Die where they want to drop the mawlock and place the model down after scatter. The dice should be placed center of where they want the model to land.
As far as the ensuing blast template, it's also an interesting precedent GW failed to consider. To keep it simple and in-line with the rules we currently have, we'll treat the blast as a SHOOTING attack with cover saves if available (i.e. : area terrain, intervening models, etc...). Close combat rules such as adding 2d6 against vehicles for Terror of the Deep (TOD) blast template will not be used. Can't have your cake AND eat it too. Since it's being ruled (for ard boys) a shooting attack , we'll treat it as such. Anything else I'm missing or didn't cover?
