"What if..." Scenario:Battle for Bree Empty "What if..." Scenario:Battle for Bree

Post by Warlord Solskritt Fri Jul 04, 2008 5:13 pm

Hey guys, I think it would be cool to have a "What if..." scenario where an uruk/Dunlending raiding party manage to raid Bree. Here it is:

"Battle for Bree"

Layout

The battle is played on a 6x4 board. In the center is the town of Bree which consists of 12 buildings grouped together. The entire town is surrounded by low walls and fences and there is one gatehouse. There is a road that runs across the board and through the town. The rest of the board is covered with a few woods and hills.

Starting positions

The Good player places all of his troops except for the rangers(who come in later) anywhere within 6 inches of a building.

The Evil player sets up his forces touching any board edge.

Forces:

Good
Captain of Gondor w/ shield
8 Warriors of Gondor w/ shields
12 Warriors of Gondor w/ spears and shields
8 Warriors of Gondor w/ bow
6 Knights of Gondor
12 Rangers of Gondor w/ spears(come in as per the reinforcements rules below)
1 Warrior of Gondor w/ banner
30 villagers(profiles below)

Evil
Uruk-hai Captain w/ heavy armor and shield
Orc captain w/ warg and shield
Dunlending chieftain w/ shield
8 Warg riders w/ throwing spears and shields
8 Warg riders w/ shields
8 Uruk-hai scouts
8 Uruk-hai scouts w/ bows
7 Uruk-hai scouts w/ shields
4 Uruk-hai warriors w/ crossbows
5 Dunlending warriors w/ bows
5 Dunlending warriors w/ shields
6 Orc warriors w/ spears
3 Orc warriors w/ shields

Points Match games
If you do not wish to use the forces above you may instead opt to play with the following forces

600pts of Good
Must include 12 rangers of Gondor

750pts of Evil

Objectives

The Local townsfolk, milita, and a small Gondorian patrol have mustered to defend their homes against the raiding party. The good player wins if at least eight out of the twelve buildings survive the game. The Evil player wins if he can destroy all of the buildings by setting fire to them. If eight houses are destroyed the game is a draw. The game ends if all the houses are destroyed or if all the raiders have been killed.

Special rules

Burning houses:

The raiders carry torches and oils to set alight the houses of Bree.At the beginning of the fight phase, any evil model in base contact with a building who has not used a missile weapon and is not engaged in a fight may attempt to set a building alight.Roll a d6; on a 5+ the building is set ablaze. For each additional evil model helping, reduce the score needed by 1.A roll of 1 always fail though.

Once it is on fire, place a counter beside the house to show it is burning. Each turn that the building remains on fire, add another counter at the end of the fight phase on a roll of a 4+.Once a building has six counters, the fire has consumed it and the building is destroyed.

Good models can attempt to beat out the flames before they can fully take hold.At the beginning of the Fight phase, any good model in base contact with with a building who has not used a missile weapon and is not engaged in a fight may attempt to beat out the flames.Roll a D6;on the score of a 5+ remove one counter from the burning building. If this reduces the number of counters to 0, the flames have been extinguished completely.Additional good models can help put out the flames. For each additional good model helping, reduce the score needed by 1.A roll of 1 always fails though.

Reinforcements:
Local rangers have heard of the battle that is to ensue and make haste to aid the townsfolk.Beginning on turn two, make a roll, before rolling for priority,to see if the rangers arrive. On turn two reinforcements arrive on the score of a 6.on turn three they arrive on a 5+, and so on up to a max of 2+.A roll of 1 always fails.

Desperate defense:The local townsfolk and Gondorian patrol aiding the townsfolk know fully well that the lives of many innocents, possibly their families and friends, are at stake if they cannot defeat the invaders. The good side does not have to test for being broken in this scenario.

Villagers

This a great scenario, keep it in mind, we will play this!
Just a matter of getting the terrain.
Or we could use some of the existing models, although I am reluctant to do so.

Solskritt, although I like the scenario, the forces of Good and Evil are not accurate.

Gondor is out the question, there is only on case were they venture anywhere near that area (and still that was way West of Bree). That was to support what was left of the nation of Anor.
It would have to be pretty much Rangers, the people of Bree (which had fighters), Dwarves and may be some Wood Elves.

Uruk-Hai and Dunlendings, again pretty far from their base of operations.
Wargs and general Orcs yes.

I was thinking of a scenario were Nazgul are doing a house to house search in Bree for the Fellowship or in this case the Hobbits.
The objective for the forces of good is not too get capture. The objective for the forces of evil is to capture the Hobbits. Kind of like hide and seek, except you can stab the son bitch if tries to grab you.

I chose those forces because at the time that was what you had although now you have a bit of everything.Feel free to change the forces as you see fit.
